Denver Nuggets vs. New Orleans Pelicans NBA Picks & Predictions

The action is heating up on the hardwood as the 2017-18 NBA Schedule rolls into the first full week of December. That action will continue to heat up on Wednesday December 6th with a 10 game NBA schedule for sports handicappers to take advantage of.  One of those ten games will feature the Denver Nuggets traveling to New Orleans to take on Pelicans.

For these two clubs, they both enter this game playing well while both holding onto playoff spots in the NBA Western Conference. The Nuggets for many might be the most surprising teams in the NBA after starting the season winning 13 of their first 22 contests while posting one of the top home records in all of the NBA (10-2) while failing to have any success on the road winning just three of their first 10 contests.

Meanwhile the Pelicans enter this contest playing near .500 ball to start the season while failing to find any type of consistency despite having one of the best tandems in all of the NBA in DeMarcus Cousins and Anthony Davis. These struggles have come at home where they have just won five of their first 10 contests as well as on the road where they are just 7-6 overall.

Now these two clubs will square off on Wednesday Night in a key Western Conference battle. For many including sports handicappers the question is can the Nuggets find a way to slow down Davis and Cousins while also finding a way to score on the offensive side of the floor?

Here are the keys to the Denver Nuggets and New Orleans Pelicans matchup on Wednesday December 6th, 2017.

Denver Nuggets – Find a way to win the War on the Glass

The Nuggets will need a few things to go right if they want to win this contest on the road against a very good Pelicans team. The biggest of those keys will be on the glass where they could play themselves into a loss early if they can’t find a way to out rebound the Pelicans. Much of the team’s success on the glass has come from Nikola Jokic who could miss the contest with an ankle injury but could be upgraded to a game time decision. In the teams wins this season Jokic was averaging 12.5 rebounds per contests. If the Nuggets big man is out they will need multiple players to step up to fill the void.

New Orleans Pelicans  – Step up on Defense

This Pelicans team has some talent including having one of the best big man duo’s in the NBA. The downside is despite having the advantage on the glass in most games, the Pelicans continue to struggle on the defensive side of the floor. After winning a difficult contest over the weekend against a very good Portland Trailblazers team the Pelicans managed to pick up their first win in four games and the first over that stretch where they allowed the opposing team to score in triple digits. Add to that stat line the Pelicans are 2-0 over their last ten games when holding opponents to under 100 points and just 3-5 when allowing opposing teams to score more than 100.

                                                        Denver Nuggets Betting Trends

The Nuggets enter Wednesday Night’s showdown with the Pelicans struggling to find any type of consistency including how they have performed for sports handicappers. Over their first 23 games (13-10) of the season the Nuggets are just 9-14 against the spread while covering in just two of their first 11 games away from Denver including just one time in their last seven road contests. Some good news for the Nuggets on Wednesday Night has been their success against teams in the Southwest Conference as they have managed to post a 6-2 record against the spread.

New Orleans Pelicans Betting Trends

For the Pelican’s a win on Wednesday will be a much needed one after winning just three of their last ten games overall while covering the spread in just four of those contests. Along with those struggles, the club has struggled at home on the year going just 4-6 to start the season. Those struggles extend out for the Pelicans who have gone just 1-4 on Wednesday Night against these spread while also posting the same record against teams in the Western Conference.

Head to Head Matchup

As these two teams get set the individual trends tend to sway both directions. The same can’t be said about their head to head trends as the Nuggets have controlled the series. Over their last 6 meetings in New Orleans the Nuggets are 5-1 while also going 4-1 overall in their last five overall meetings. Other trends that point to the Nuggets include the fact that the road team has covered in eight of their past 11 meetings while the underdog is 7-2 over their last nine meetings. Along with those trends you could consider the Over on Wednesday Night as they have combined to cover in four of their last five meetings.
